Fantastic Friday - Classic Dance Scenes and Funky Music

One of my friends on Facebook shared this video, and I was blown away by it.

I love musicals, thanks to my mum who adored them; we watched so many, I can’t remember them all. Most of the storylines were much of a muchness, but it was the music and dances that got me hooked.

I was a bit sceptical as to whether this would work, setting those same dances to modern music. Was I ever happy to be proven wrong!

Inspired by a dance scene mashup on Youtube, featuring ‘Uptown Funk’ and dance scenes from 100 films, Michael Binder (part of ‘Nerd Fest UK’ on Youtube) decided to do the same but used dance scenes from the Golden Age of Hollywood instead. While not making it to 100 – it features 66 films – the result is stupendous. The timing is spot-on for each clip. I cannot begin to imagine how he put it all together – having to, not only remember the different dance sequences, but to make sure each one was a perfect fit with the music as he didn’t alter the speed of any of the original footage. As if that wasn't enough, he's also included the titles for each film, which are in the subtitles of the video.

It took him a total of 3 weeks to put this delightful video together, working evenings and weekends. Now, that is a true labour of love. And an amazing exercise in patience.
