Earlier this week, I was contacted by a lady who’s been reading my blog regularly for the past few months. She was complimentary about it, and it makes me happy when I hear people enjoy reading my posts.
She then brought something to my attention which, much to my embarrassment, I’ve never thought about. Unfortunately, she’s started to have eyesight problems, which makes reading the blog difficult. So, she asked if I’d consider adding audio versions of my posts.
To be honest, I’ve never given audio much thought because I always thought I’d have to do the recordings myself. Turns out that’s not the case.
Not only did this lovely lady highlight this for me, she also did her own research and included a couple of sites which provide free audio. All I have to do is copy and paste the chosen code at the end of each post and, voila! The audio is there, ready to be listened to.
Although not perfect, I think it’s a good addition to the blog. The service I picked – websitevoice – has a good range of language choices. Unfortunately, the female ‘English British’ voice sounds a little too robotic for my tastes, so, after some dithering, I decided to go with ‘English US’.
I’m gradually working my way through my posts, in reverse chronological order. Not being tech savvy, I can’t work out why the audio starts with the title for some posts, but for others, it bypasses the title and goes straight to the text.
I’d be interested to hear what you think of the new feature. Do comment below or send me an email; as always, I’d love to hear from you.
